    Staying Organized with STIL

    Hey everyone!

September always feels like the new year to me, I work in a school and I’m also a university student so it’s a big change from the summer. While I’m in school organization is key for me! I’m really not sure how I would function without my lists, calendars and sticky notes! I thought since my organization is so important to me I would share a few of my favourite things from STIL Classics!

A planner is always a must for me, and this year I decided to try something new so I purchased the 6 month planner from STIL Classics! What drew me to this planner was the day plan + task list. It’s also undated so it gives me the flexibility to start the planner literally whenever I want to!

I also got the planning stickers and washi tape to use in conjunction with my planner and honestly, they are so convenient! If your the type of person who loves planning but isn’t big on writing (or just loves stickers) you will love these! The washi tape is also so fun to create a little pizazz on a day where I have a fun event or occasion!

In addition to a planner, I absolutely need a notebook (or 5, lets just be honest). Whether I’m in classes or not I love to have a new notebook to jot down ideas, blog posts, or of course notes when I am in class! This one has become a fast favourite for me; I just love the simplicity of the cover and the quality of the paper!

Lastly, I found something new! This frosted plastic pouch has been a life saver! I got the larger size which is the perfect size to fit any regular sized document, and it even has some extra room so it’s easy to throw in my notebook + planner. The best part about it, and kind of why I bought it is because it keeps everything important safe + dry!

If you’re looking to get a new planner or any other stationary essentials I highly recommend STIL classics, theres just something so perfect about the simple design and quality that goes into each and every product!

    The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival

Last week my friend Sara and I went out to the Sunflower Festival in Chilliwack! It’s on the same property as the Tulips of the Valley just off of the highway. Not only do they have tons of beautiful sunflowers, but they also have lawn games and a shop area to buy sunflowers + tulip bulbs.

The sunflowers themselves are incredible! As you walk through the rows its fairly quiet as the flowers reach over 6 feet tall. It was still quite smoky when we went, but there are still so many photo opportunities, and of course I had to grab a bunch of sunflowers to bring home!

Here are some of my favourite photos from the day – many of them feature my cutie pie niece!

I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area! You can check out their instagram here and purchase tickets here!

    10 Questions with a Hairstylist

So if any of you are like me, you have a million questions about your hair: how to style it, what products to use, what cuts look good and of course how do I keep it healthy!?

You can google all you want but everyone’s hair is so different, and lets just be honest… sometimes google isn’t the answer!

I’ve asked my hair stylist (and all around cool chick) Courtenay some of the some of the most frequently asked questions and she’s here to tell you all the answers!

    1. What’s the best product to pump up the volume for straight/fine hair?

A volumizing shampoo and conditioner are key! I also love a root booster spray such as Guts by Redken, or if you really want to get fancy, a backcombing powder really does the trick!

    2. How do I tame my frizz?!?

This can be tricky! It’s a little bit different for everybody depending on hair type and texture, but a smoothing shampoo/ conditioner is a good place to start. Still battling frizz? try a smoothing oil such as Redken Frizz Dismiss before blow drying, and even on dry hair to tame any stubborn fly always.

    3. What hair trends are coming for fall/winter this year?

Warmer tones are always a popular trend for fall and winter. This could mean a complete change from blonde to brunette, or toning down your existing balayage to something warmer such as caramel, or golden blonde. Copper and red tones are my personal favourite because they can really switch up your look without having to be a permanent change. Longer hair cuts are usually a trend in fall and winter as well, but making sure to get regular trims to keep your hair from matting in the back due to scarves, wind, and harsh conditions is a must!

    4. How do I know if blonde would suit me?

It’s all about maintenance! I do a lot of blondes, and the one thing I always tell people who are wanting to make the change to lighter hair is that it is a lot more maintenance, a lot more money, and a lot more hair care. Certain shampoos and conditioners are needed, better products to keep the hair healthy, and more appointments to keep up with the roots if your hair isn’t light already.

    5. Is box dye really that bad?

I can answer this question in one word.. YES! But I’ll elaborate a bit.. There are lots of Metallic Dyes, and Waxes in box dye that can damage your hair, clog pores on your scalp, and cause minor hair loss. Not to mention when getting your hair professionally coloured, that formula is custom made for you. Tailored to your hair colour, type, and texture. When colouring from a box, it’s one size fits all, and that can lead to a disaster which can be costly to fix, and even harder on your hair.

    6. Can I get my hair blonde?

The answer is always yes! It is definitely a process, and will not happen in one session. It’s good to have realistic expectations when it comes to each appointment and I always under promise, and over deliver when it comes to blonde. It’s different for everyone, but if you’re willing to take the necessary precautions and listen to my advice, you can absolutely get to your end goal without sacrificing the health of your hair.

    7. How often should you actually wash your hair?

I wash my hair once a week! I’ve trained my hair to stay dirty over the course of many many years and now i can go 7-10 days without washing! I know though that this is an unrealistic expectation for most people, and that some people just don’t like the thought of not washing it almost every day. My recommendation for most everybody is, if you can go 2-3 days without washing, you’re doing your hair (and scalp) some good ! Any longer then that? even better ! Just make sure when you do wash, you’re using a good shampoo, and lather, rinse, and repeating.

    8. How often should I be getting my hair cut?

8-10 weeks is recommended ! This keeps your hair from splitting, maintains your style, and prevents further damage by nipping any problems in the bud.

9 . I can’t really afford fancy salon quality shampoo, what’s my next best option?

There are lots of options for shampoo and conditioner from a salon that don’t have to break the bank! Many salons and salon chains offer BOGO deals on certain brands at certain times of the year. Redken products tend to be on the less expensive side without having to sacrifice quality. Their shampoos are about $12-$15 each, and will last you twice if not 3 times as long as anything from the drugstore.

    10. Is there any way to actually grow your hair faster?

No there are no ways to make your hair come out of your scalp at a faster rate. Everyone always asks, does cutting your hair make your hair grow faster? The answer is no. It keeps your ends healthy, preventing splitting and travelling up the hair shaft. Once those ends are cut off, your hair stays long and strong and you will notice more length because it’s not breaking off as quickly. Will vitamins make my hair grow faster? Your body naturally produces all the Biotin and Vitamins that are needed to maintain healthy skin and hair. As long as you’re taking care of your hair with good product, regular trims and maintaining a healthy (ish) lifestyle your hair will take care of itself!
